Safeguarding Food Security and Environmental Well-being: CPT's Commitment through Sponsoring Pinglin BlueMagpie Tea Garden

Chugai Pharma Taiwan Ltd. (CPT) has entered into an agreement with Taiwan BlueMagpie Tea, a local brand at Pinglin, New Taipei City, to assist tea farmers to grow non-toxic tea through contract farming. A tea plantation unveiling ceremony was held on May 3rd, 2023, officially initiating the partnership aiming at establishing Pinglin into an ecological village. This collaborative effort seeks to ensure the water safety of Feicui Dam, a vital water source for the greater Taipei area, while supporting tea farmers in their livelihoods, safeguarding food safety, and preserving blue magpies.

CPT has been actively fulfilling its corporate social responsibility in recent years, with a strong commitment to environmental sustainability and green procurement, prioritizing the preservation of terrestrial and riparian ecosystems. Given the multitude of food safety incidents in Taiwan, CPT endeavors to assist tea farmers in Pinglin by promoting the adoption of "pesticide-free and eco-friendly" cultivation methods, thereby ensuring the production of organic teas that are free from any food safety concerns, consequently instilling enhanced consumer confidence. CPT upholds the belief that a pesticide-free catchment area serves as the veritable green abode for all forms of life, and through proactive measures, CPT is dedicated to protecting blue magpies and supporting the basin restoration initiative in the Pinglin region.

Po-Chun Huang, the visionary founder of Taiwan BlueMagpie Tea who spearheads the collaborative tea plantation project, said that BlueMagpie Tea, with its base in Pinglin, employs a watershed recovery strategy in Yuguang, Dacukeng, and Shangde River basins, to encourage tea farmers practicing conventional farming to embrace organic and pesticide-free cultivation. This approach aims to prevent soil and water contamination, safeguard the habitats of blue magpies and other organisms, and achieve environmental sustainability.

Moreover, CPT plans to present BlueMagpie Tea gift boxes to employees and members of pharmaceutical associations at the Dragon Boat Festival, with a view to raise awareness about food safety, rally more partners to choose Taiwan's environmentally beneficial tea, enhance sustainable outcomes, and fulfill corporate social responsibility.
