Chugai Pharma Taiwan (CPT) has been honored with the inaugural "Bio-Power 30×30 Biodiversity Action Award" in 2026, presented jointly by Friendly Seed, Unity Sustainability, and SynerGood. As one of eight award recipients this year, the recognition affirms the company's long-standing commitment to ecological conservation and reflects its broader interpretation of "health" — that true human health can only be achieved through a healthy environment and thriving biodiversity.

According to the 2026 Global Risks Report, biodiversity loss has emerged as one of the top three global risks over the next decade. As the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework sets forth the "30×30" target — protecting 30% of the world's land and oceans by 2030 — the challenge for businesses has shifted from awareness to action. International disclosure frameworks such as TNFD (Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures) and CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) are also raising the bar for corporate nature-related risk management.

In northern Taiwan, CPT has ventured deep into the Pinglin watershed, adopting pesticide-free tea gardens to address the long-standing threat that agricultural chemicals pose to water sources, water quality, and wildlife.

This initiative delivers a dual ecological benefit:

Water Resource Protection: Reducing pesticide runoff into the Feitsui Reservoir, safeguarding the precious water supply for the Greater Taipei area.

Species Conservation: Eliminating pesticide threats to species such as the Taiwan Blue Magpie, allowing this endemic bird to move freely through lowland forest corridors and preserving the integrity of local biodiversity networks.

In southern Taiwan, CPT has extended its conservation efforts to protect the habitat of the endangered Russet Sparrow. By partnering with local farmers to cultivate contract millet fields, the company not only provides a vital food source and habitat for the species, but also supports the preservation and continuation of indigenous traditional farming cultures.

This resilient network — co-created by the company, local farmers, and the ecosystem — powerfully demonstrates the deep connection between biodiversity conservation and the safeguarding of indigenous cultural heritage.

The judging panel of the Bio-Power 30×30 Biodiversity Action Award noted that all winning projects offered innovative solutions deeply rooted in each company's core business. As a leader in the pharmaceutical industry, CPT approaches ecological issues through a unique health-centered perspective: drug development relies on the rich biological resources found in nature, and a healthy environment is the fundamental foundation of human health — the two are inseparable.

The company's conservation initiatives translate this philosophy into measurable, actionable outcomes, echoing the four stages of action championed by Dr. Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots program: beginning with inspiration and learning, deepening understanding through exploration and connection, moving into active conservation, and ultimately celebrating the ripple effect of meaningful impact.

Every year on May 22, the United Nations observes the International Day for Biological Diversity, raising global awareness of the biodiversity crisis and encouraging proactive action across all sectors. This year's theme calls on businesses, governments, and civil society to collectively shoulder conservation responsibilities — a message that resonates strongly with the global "30×30" target.
